TIPS FOR ENCOURAGING OUR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN’S WRITING:

Writing is a very vital aspect in life. Whether our children are writing by hand or on the computer, many homeworks and exams require them to write short answers or longer essays as a way of assessing what they have learned and it is only right as parents to help encourage our children’s writing skills. As we continue to say, we CANNOT leave everything for the schools to do for us. We MUST as parents continue to play our own roles.
Writing involves: Handwriting, Creative thinking and Grammar.
HOW CAN YOU ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD’S WRITING?
-Make sure your child sees you writing. Remember they copy what you do. They see it as an adult activity and that attracts them.
-Always show keen interest in your child’s writing .Praising them and giving only constructive criticism. For example: “Your writing is getting much better, well done. Let’s make it a bit bigger so that your teachers can read it more clearly.” This is a better way to correct them.
-Buy your child a junior dictionary. Encourage them to learn new words every day. You might learn one or two as well in the process. (smiles)
