Teachers’s Expectations of Students

Recent education news reports what we have always known regarding the Asian countries topping the global school rankings. In as much as I do not want to focus on the actual rankings, a point made in the article caught my attention.

IF YOU GO TO AN ASIAN CLASSROOM, YOU’LL FIND TEACHERS WHO EXPECT EVERY STUDENT TO SUCCEED.

EXPECTATION is KEY and we totally agree. Our children must know the expectations that we have of them. As parents, we expect them to succeed and we must tell them both in words and actions (by staying involved). We cannot control the teachers’ expectations of our children BUT we can help change it by doing our very best to make sure that we support our children. An involved parent helps transform a child and a teacher’s expectation can be changed by a transformed child.

When teachers see how involved you are as a parent, it does your child/children a lot of good. Children feel good and want to do their very best when their teachers and parents expect the best from them.
