Schools ‘Harming Pupils’ By Not Focusing On Health

Schools in the UK are harming pupil’s health and well-being and may be hindering their academic performance by neglecting their personal development, a leading expert said.

Professor Chris Bonell at the Institute of Education, University of London, wrote in the British Medical Journal online that education policy shouldn’t focus solely on academic attainment.

His advice is that lessons in health, well-being and social relationships should be mandatory, as schools in Britain are currently ‘neglecting’ children and may be actively harming their health and education.
