We cannot leave the driving seat of our children’s education to the teachers alone.

Lack of parental involvement is a barrier to student performance.

What does parental involvement comprise of?

According to some research done by De Planty, Coulter-Kern & Duchance 2007; Hill & Tyson 2009) here is a list of what involvement comprises of:

  • Making sure that our children are in school everyday
  • Attending parent evenings
  • Regularly talking to our children about school
  • Checking that our children have done their homework
  • Balancing school work with school activities
  • Having a variety of reading materials in the house
  • Balancing school work and time with friends
  • Having a set time for homework
  • Attending activities in school
  • Limiting amount of times that our children watch TV
  • Regularly talking with our children’s teachers
  • Volunteering at school
