Mum Faces Court Threat Over Cancer Girl School Absence

According to a report on BBC Education online, the mother of a seven-year-old girl who battled cancer is being prosecuted for not sending her to school. She has been summoned to court after failing to pay a £60 fine for keeping her daughter, who has had a tumour on her kidneys, off school. Libby, who attends Paget primary school and was diagnosed with cancer five years ago, is still under the care of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Although the cancer is gone, she still requires regular check-ups.

The council justified their action by claiming not to be given any reasons for the absence.

What do you think? Is the council being too heavy handed?
