An Increase In The Number Of Parents Fined For Letting Children Skip Schools

According to telegraph, official figures recently out have shown that the number of parents being fined for allowing their children to miss lessons rose by more than a quarter last year.

A crackdown on mothers and fathers who pull their children out of classes to secure cheaper holiday deals or turn a blind eye as they play truant saw 52,370 penalty notices issued last school year compared with 41,224 the previous year.

The number of parents being fined is likely to increase even further again next year after head teachers were told in September to stop giving parents’ permission to remove their children from school during term time.

Previously heads had been advised they could grant pupils leave for family holidays in “special circumstances” for up to 10 school days per year, but changes to the law mean no absence should be permitted unless in “exceptional” cases.
