A Right For Siblings To Attend The Same School Guaranteed

The schools minister promises to end transport ‘nightmare’ faced by many parents Brothers and sisters will no longer have to go to different schools because places are over-subscribed, under plans being drawn up by ministers. Nick Gibb said he wants to give siblings an automatic right to attend the same state school for the first time.

Parents can apply for their children to go to their local school if they live in its catchment area.

Mr Gibb will put the change out to a consultation, which will result in proposals which will have to be considered by MPs and peers in Parliament. The changes will be part of wider reforms which will see the code amended to allow parents to request that children born between April and August – so called summer born babies – can start school a year later.

Interesting times ahead, we’d say.
