A Parent’s concern: “In reading, other children are doing better than mine. What can I do?

We have learnt that learning to read is NOT a race and parents must be careful not to get too competitive on their children’s behalf. Children will vary in how rapidly they take on reading almost like they vary in learning to talk and learning to walk. You must never show our anxiety to your child as that would make him anxious as well and NOT help matters. Help him by reading with him every day and if necessary, talk to his teacher as well, who may have other suggestions you can add to what you are already doing.
